Longboard vs. Cruiser

Longboard vs. Cruiser

Published by The Longboard Store | Jake Daniels on 11th Jul 2022

Longboards and cruisers are very similar types of skateboards, but there are some important differences. A longboard is a long skateboard with great stability at high speeds, while a cruiser is for cruising around, hence the name. There is a significant amount of overlap between cruisers and longboards, which makes this confusing. Here we will highlight differences, similarities, and pros and cons of a longboard vs. cruiser:

Longboards

Most longboards perform very well on flat streets and provide plenty of stability for aggressive riding styles like downhill or carving. While most longboards can be used for these styles of riding, they are also great for cruising.

Cruisers

Most cruisers are made specifically for cruising. For this reason, they excel in this category, but are strictly limited to it. Cruisers are not adequate for downhill, freeride, or carving. Cruisers are a specialized type of skateboard.

Similarities

Longboards and cruisers are both great for casual skateboarding. Both these types of skateboards are excellent on flat or slightly hilly streets. Most riders who are comfortable riding one of these types can also ride the other because they are very similar.

Cruiser Longboard

This brings us to the cruiser longboard. A cruiser longboard is a hybrid skateboard with elements of both a longboard and a cruiser. This is a very fun type of skateboard for cruising and street skating. A great example of a cruiser longboard is the Sector 9 Striker Canopy. The Striker Canopy is a longboard that is amazing for cruising, making it a prime cruiser longboard. Check out our cruiser longboards for sale!
